Mac Os X Install Python

(This is a reminder to myself, and maybe a help for someone else who might be in the same situation as me. The purpose was to be able to lint documentation I’m trying to update for the pip project work.)

Installing Python 3 on Mac OS X¶ The latest version of Mac OS X, High Sierra, comes with Python 2.7 out of the box. Download Mac OS X 64-bit/32-bit installer; Python 2.7.4 - April 6, 2013. Download Mac OS X 32-bit i386/PPC installer; Download Mac OS X 64-bit/32-bit installer; Python 3.3.1 - April 6, 2013. Download Mac OS X 32-bit i386/PPC installer; Download Mac OS X 64-bit/32-bit installer; Python 3.3.0 - Sept. Download Mac OS X 32-bit i386/PPC. Macs are a bit annoying in that you can’t simply uninstall things nicely. To get around this we use homewbrew which is a package manager for Mac OS X. Google something like “installing hombrew mac os x” and at the time of writing it should take you to with a line of code that you copy and paste into Terminal. Installing python3. Follow this link and download the latest python3 OS X package. Run the package and follow the steps to install python3 on your computer. Once the installation is done, on your Terminal, run. Python3 -version. This will print out the version of python installed on your system. The output should be similar to. Installing Python on Mac OS X Catalina. I’ve used this helpful How-TO. Everything worked until the very end where brew couldn’t create a necessary directory:

I reran install python and got:

The solution was to create the /usr/local/Framworks directory manually:

Then change the owner and group to mirror other directories (bernard:admin)

And finally run the brew link command from above:

And then I could start what I wanted to actually do. 🙂
